Lia-Monica Fontaine was 16 when she became a world medalist. At her first Worlds in Jakarta in 2025, she stuck two clean vaults, a Yurchenko double full and a Lopez, and took silver behind Angelina Melnikova after qualifying third with a 14.099.
From Salaberry-de-Valleyfield near Montreal, she trains at WimGym under Claude Pelletier, Canada’s 2025 Coach of the Year. She won five medals at the 2025 Pan American Championships, including floor gold and all-around silver.
Her 2026 season has been just as busy: all-around gold at International Gymnix, two silvers at her first World Cup in Osijek, the Canadian all-around title, vault silver and team bronze at Pan Ams in Rio, then vault gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, plus team silver and bronze on all-around and beam.
Gymnastics Canada named her to its Worlds team on Sept. 28. With vault as her best event, she heads to Rotterdam as a real contender for another final.
