Aiko Sugihara

Aiko Sugihara is the reigning world champion on floor. At 2025 Worlds in Jakarta she won floor gold, added bronze on beam and finished seventh all-around.

Her 2026 has been even better. At the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya she won the all-around (55.599), ending China’s run of 13 straight Asian Games all-around titles, plus floor gold and team silver. She also won beam at the Cottbus World Cup in February.

Sugihara, 27, from Osaka, is a two-time Olympian (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, where Japan was fifth in the team final). She stepped away from the sport for a while before returning. A beam skill carries her name: the Sugihara, a double turn with the free leg held in a 180-degree split, valued at E.

She trains with Kazukuni Ono and is on Japan’s team for Worlds in Rotterdam.
